HOW TO START FOR FREE IN DAZ 3D

Just to help you get started, I've included my how-to guide for anybody interested in trying the same free 3D CGI art program I use.

Dear Friends and Visitors:

Please read through this start-up guide before you start clicking on links or registering anywhere! I have developed this guide because I wanted to be able to share my personal “insider secrets” with folks who want to get into 3D poser art. Why? Number one, I believe art makes our world a better place. Number two, I respect even the stuffiest artist copyrights, and I can now make my very own worry-free goodies. It’s such a great feeling to be able to tell someone “I made this.”

This guide includes many of the things I wish I would have known from day one. With a little investment of your time up front, you will save lots of time, effort and money in the end. Yes, this is a LOT of information to digest at one sitting, but it's well worth the time. Your patience is greatly appreciated as I add or edit parts of this guide to make it more useful. Further Suggestions And Notes:

Create a new folder to hold your downloads and place it for easy access. I strongly suggest that you only download "Commercial Use" allowed files. Failure to respect a content creator’s Terms of Use or Service may get you banned or black listed in the 3D community at large! On the whole, the 3D community is helpful and generous to a fault, but it will not tolerate TOS/TOU violators or folks who collect their content only to burn CD’s for resale. Always check the TOU and/or "Read Me" file. You can usually e-mail the content creator if you have questions about the terms.

If you will be creating images for resale or public consumption, don’t download anything that has non-commercial TOS.

Don’t forget to check the content description to make sure it is compatible with DAZ Studio or with your current version of a 3D Graphics Program. Also, some content is an add-on or expansion to other content. Please make sure you have the necessary pre-requisite content. Make sure you don't accidentally buy an outfit or texture that doesn't fit your figure. You can easily call DAZ Customer Service if you have any questions: 1-800-267-5170

About 3D CGI Communities: These are places where the 3D artists and content creators hang out and have a lot of fun. Most folks are very nice. You are expected to follow posted rules of any particular community you join. When in doubt about something, ask an administrator of the community before doing it. 3D computer art truly is a group effort. It takes the cooperation and efforts of the community to make the end results possible.

Image or Product Credits: We 3D artists and content creators try our best to give credit to others who have contributed something to our final images whenever appropriate or possible.

Non-Commercial vs Commercial Use: When in doubt stick with commercial use content.

Never be afraid to ask "newbie" questions if you can't find an answer after looking in the New Members or FAQ's board, forum or "sticky" first. Most of the Admins and members try to be helpful.

REMEMBER, YOUR VOICE MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

Really! Testing, one, two, three! Ok, I used my time today to test out one of my 3D program shader settings. Compared to what I normally use, I think the overall look of this shader is very velvety and soft. The first image uses my regular shader settings("Regular Shaders") and the second image("Shader Test One") uses some new settings. If you like the second style of shader, let me know and I'll share more things that use it. Remember, your helpful feedback contributes to my creativity and my offerings here.

Al Khamsa, the Five Horses of Legend

The Bedouins tell tales of the noble equines, Al Khamsa, five magnificent mares that were a gift from Allah to the Prophet Muhammed. My heart has a special place for this beloved breed of horse, commonly known as the Arabian. Their distinctive dish-shaped faces, spirit, and large, intelligent eyes make them a favorite of horse fanciers the world over. My passion for them began when I was a young girl, and I will always love the "Drinkers of the Wind", as the Bedouin people affectionately and reverently call them. As you can see from this set, I have a fondness for the Kehilan strain with its characteristic facial features.

My friends, I hope my Arabian horses might find as dear a place in your hearts as they have mine. This PNG set includes dapple grays, palominos and one black Arabian. Strictly speaking, there are no purebred palomino Arabians, however; horses with beautiful Arabian characteristics do occur with careful selective breeding for conformation and color.

Welcome to My World: My life as a creative person began as soon as I was able to hold a crayon. In high school and college, I studied traditional studio art, including painting, printmaking and drawing. After I lost my studio space, I decided to switch over to computer graphics. To my great surprise, computer art has been far less expensive an undertaking than traditional art. Some of the most wonderful folks I've ever met just happen to be my fellow addicts--oops, I mean artists, really I do. This blog will feature my musings, art and photography.

CGI: Most of my graphics begin their life in a 3D program. Next, the image gets varying levels of additional work in PSP and PS Elements. At some point photos may come into play. I choose not to artificially divide the process from an initial raw image and secondary software "postwork". At this point in my life, I will use any legitimate means at my disposal to create an image. It's all hard work. Program or process snobbery doesn't have a place in my creativity.

My Ongoing Obsession: Some of my graphics eventually have more than 10 raster layers. It's not unusual for me to spend a day just to get the right lighting, pose or expression on a 3D character. My traditional experience gave me a solid foundation for any creative project I may have in mind. If I've learned anything, it's that there are a multitude of ways to achieve a similar end result. I don't have to spend a lot of money to make something pretty, but I may have to stay up all night to get it where I want it.

Tubes & Stuff: All of the 3D and 2D content I use is commercially licensed. My images comply with the terms of use supplied by the content creator or site. I will add more images as time allows. I have a lot of tube and .png transparency layer graphics to share as soon as I get the blog on track. When downloads become available, I will post a TOU. My images have their own unique style, and I try my best to maintain consistent, quality images.
